On your next family camping trip, what would happen if you and your loved ones were to become lost or stranded in the middle of a waterless forest? Dehydration is one of the most uncomfortable ways to die. “Ersa” is a prototype design that might one day save the lives of you and your family. Using solar power and air, Ersa will be able to produce water even in the most remote of areas.
Ersa was designed by UNSW student Scott Norrie and it is currently a finalist in the Australian Design Awards competition. The design utilizes renewable energy (30W solar module) creating water from the surrounding air and allows for the use of its excess power to charge portable devices such as GPS units, mobile phones and also allows the user to give a jump charge to their vehicles battery. Don’t leave home without it. It could save your life someday. — Andrew Dobrow
