York University engineers have been experimenting with their cute underwater robots for a few months now, but this is the first time we get to see the little guys in action. These Aqua robots are controlled through tablet computers shielded with a waterproof shell. The tablets are operated by trained divers who can get a robots-eye-view of the ocean from a safe distance.
The Aqua bots are designed to reach dangerous or unobtainable areas such as shipwrecks, coral reefs and caves. The robot is controlled through motion detectors on the tablet controller and is actually quite agile, even compared to robotic fish.
