Today, Sony made the announcement that most of us probably hoped we’d never hear again. Around 93,000 PSN accounts have had their personal data compromised.
However, this time (at least), it looks like it isn’t entirely Sony’s fault. Sony said that they detected a large number of unauthorized attempts to access PSN users’ accounts. The accounts which were successfully confirmed by the hackers have been sent an email with password reset instructions.
Since so many accounts were affected (though, 93,000 is only around 1% of PSN users), Sony is theorizing that the infiltrators received information from another source, and then tried to see if the user accounts on PSN had matching email/password combinations.
Either way, probably a good idea to go change your PSN password anyway.
