This amazing photo is from the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, which has provided us with some of the most stunning (and surprising) space photos to date.
The Carina Nebula contains two of the most luminous and massive stars in the Milky Way galaxy – HD 93129A and Eta Carinae. This nebula is “relatively close” to us, being from 6,500 and 10,000 light years away from Earth. Since the Carina Nebula is in the southern hemisphere, it’s less well-known than the Orion Nebula. The Carina Nebula is around four times as large as the Orion Nebula, and significantly brighter.
