A good night’s sleep is one of the most important ways to have a happy and productive life. Lack of sleep can cause low concentration, depression, bad judgment, and many other negative physical and mental effects.
Much like anything else, technology has the answer, and even asks the right questions. Here are a few ways technology and gadgets can help you sleep through the night.
1. Control your snoring!
Snoring is a sleeping issue that I still find to be underrated. Even if you don’t have a severe apnea-related issue, any type of breathing interference is going to mess with your sleep cycle.
I’ve tried every piece of junk mouthpiece on the market, and the one I found to be most effective was the Good Morning Snore Solution. The coolest thing about this gadget is that it uses actual clinical science to solve the issue, instead of just rehashing the same ineffective solution.
Instead of just keeping your jaw in place, it actually uses tongue displacement to keep your airways free. While it’s a bit more pricey when compared to its competitors, this one is the solution that actually WORKS! When my snoring is under control I fell much more rested in the morning and throughout the day. You can check out the Good Morning Solution in greater detail here.
2. Binaural Beats
Also called binaural tones, these beats are more like subliminal messages than anything. This might sound a little freaky, but it’s a lifesaver for many insomniacs. Binaural beats are underlying auditory processing artifacts, or apparent sounds, caused by specific physical stimuli. These beats make subtle changes to your brain waves, which changes your activity.
There are many smartphone sleep-aid apps that employ binaural beats to ease your brainwaves into a sound sleep, notably Binaural Beats Therapy on Android and 100 Binaural Beats and Isochronic Tones! on iTunes.
3. Get your sleep cycle under control
There’s nothing that can ruin your rest quite like waking up at the wrong point in your sleep cycle. There is a certain natural sleep process that your body adheres to, which is a vital part of your circadian rhythm. If you wake up abruptly, of if your alarm goes off when you’re in your deepest sleep state, you won’t feel as rested. Your body has not had the chance to ease itself through the proper channels.
The Android and iOS app Sleep Cycle helps you monitor your sleep cycles by keep track of your subtle movements. It even includes an alarm to wake you up at the optimal moment of your cycle, within a certain customizable time span.
4. Snuggle up with a good eBook.
From my own personal experience, I know that laying down and snuggling up under the blankets with my Kindle is sometimes exactly what the doctor ordered. This is a hit-or-miss solution, because if you become too interested in the story, you’re bound to keep yourself up all night. It’s happened to me. Way too many times.
But if you’re like me, reading in the proper conditions at the proper moment can lull you to sleep like nothing else.
5. Unplug
Sometimes the best technology to help you sleep is no technology at all. Turn off your phone, put away your Kindle, dim the lights, close your eyes, breathe in and out, and just relax without any of the hassles of modern technology.
The less stimulus the better! No cheating!
