Losing the Tangibility of Cigarettes to E-Liquids

What was perceived as a symbol of manhood is now being used widely in stress and anxiety management. With increasing deadlines and targets, people are turning to chain smoking. It is a known fact that cigarette smoking is injurious to health and cancer is disease that can kill one silently. Thus, to curb smoking, manufacturers have started producing e-cigarettes. They are also known as electronic cigarettes and vaporizer cigarettes and are battery operated. They emit small doses of vaporized nicotine and also have the option of a non-nicotine vapor. They are often marketed as alternatives to tobacco smoking since the smokers of tobacco do not actually desire to inhale tobacco smoke. Tobacco is the key ingredient of a regular cigarette and contains over four thousand chemicals which are lethal to humans.

The mechanism of the E-cigarette

The unique selling proposition of an e-cigarette is the no combustion – no smoke feature. This means that the user feels as if he is inhaling tobacco devoid of smoke. They are long in shape and appearance and often resemble the cigar pipe. Advanced designs give them the appearance of ball point pens and these cigarettes are often reusable and refillable. The cartridges contain eliquid which serves as a fuel for the e-cigarette. The modern variants are automatic and activated when the user sucks on it. This sensor further triggers the heating element in the device which vaporizes the liquid in the device. The user gets to choose the kind of liquid he wishes to inhale and also the nicotine level and the flavors. The e-liquid largely constitutes of elements which are used to create a smooth flavor.

The components of E-cigarettes

The E-cigarette has various components including a mouthpiece, heating element, rechargeable battery, and some circuits. The mouthpiece is called the cartridge and holds an absorbent material which is smeared in the liquid solution. The cartridges can also be replaced with drip tips in which there are no absorbent materials. The liquid is directly placed into the atomizer bridge. It is the heating element which vaporizes the liquid for inhaling. The atomizer needs to be changed between a period of three to six months as it tends to wear out. The circuit works on lithium-ion batteries and is rechargeable. The life of the battery solely depends on the usage patterns and operating environment. The battery portion is the biggest component of the device and is delicate in nature.

The fuel mechanism

The eliquid has varying degrees of nicotine and at times comes without nicotine as well. There are liquids of varying flavors. These are mostly natural and range from vanilla to green apple. The liquid often contains a mixture of PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin). Other chemicals accompany it and tend to change the potency of the liquid strongly. A standard version contains 70% PG/VG 30% to 50% PG/VG 50% and is improvised further for unique concoctions. The user also gets to choose the level of nicotine in the fluid since everyone has his own personal tastes and preferences.
