Companies around the world are working hard nowadays to achieve gender balance and speed up cultural shift that was earlier male dominated. A woman working in technology related jobs was very rare in previous times. But things are changing now. Women are not just working as employees in technology forms but are also running many of them as the head or chief executives and high ranking officials. Jack Ma the owner of Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba says that women’s representation in the companies should be increased so as to make your firm more competitive. Alibaba has more than 40% of its employees as females. Not just this but most of the top tech companies around the world know the importance of keeping a balance between their male and female employees ratio to be more innovative and creative due to diversity of ideas in their organization. Gender biases that are imbibed in the minds human since the very beginning of their lives needs to be changed and for bringing in this change , it is highly important to involve the women themselves as the change maker. Gender disparity and income inequality between male and female has always been there in our society. Though women have grown to bring in noticeable changes still the condition in many parts of the world is far from ideal. With only few countries like Iceland, Ireland and some Nordic countries have achieved a lot in terms of gender equality, the situation is still very poor even in the other developed countries.
Women are still not seen occupying considerable number of positions in the world of technology. Those who are there are not paid at per with their male counterparts. The difference in their income widens during the time a woman starts a family and gets buried under the responsibilities that comes along with it. However , though there are enormous challenges there are inspiring examples of women working in tech firms like Susan Wojcicki, Sheryl Sandberg, Indira Nooyi etc to name a few, who have reached the zenith of success in their career and have proved themselves to be no less than men working around them. However the world is changing positively and with so many initiatives and efforts of positive change makers, the day is not far when we will witness equal male and female representation in the workforce of a company.
