This photo is simply amazing, and lends a slightly melancholy feel to the final NASA shuttle mission. This will be the last photo ever taken showing NASA’s manned space shuttle with the southern lights (Aurora Australis) in the background.
In front, you can see the illuminated form of Atlantis, which is docked at the ISS (International Space Station). You can also see the robotic arm extending towards earth, as well as the station’s radiators.
The real treat is seeing the beautiful green earth luminescence that identifies the southern lights. Having all of these concepts captured in this photo is sure to make it a signature emblem of NASA’s final shuttle mission. Full resolution photo at the source link.
