Choosing the Right Colors for the Job – A Guide on How to Pick Colors for Interior Design

Interior design is great because it helps us bring balance among our variety of possessions that come from different places and give off different vibes. When choosing colors, there are things you need to watch out for, or you’ll find yourself with a final setup that doesn’t really fit anything. Not only does it not look good on its own but it doesn’t look good in relation with the house and how it is lit either. Here are some things that you need to take into account when choosing the colors for your house. You may find that taking these pieces of advice will help you come up with great interior designs.

The light

The light is a fickle thing. You can buy all the lamps you want but it won’t replicate natural sunlight and how it reaches through windows. Lighting has a very important job when it comes to colors. Specifically, wall colors. A certain house may look beautiful painted in a certain color, but if you move that same exact color to another house you might have an unpleasant surprise. Lighting influences how colors look and is something you should deeply consider. It’s rather interesting how all the different elements that come into play when designing the interior decoration of a room can be boiled down to something so simple as lighting.

Textures

Every interior designer will encourage you to have multiple textures in a room. That’s correct, you should have multiple textures so that there is a sense of variety and also a distinction between the various things you decorate the room with. But keep in mind that different textures are more appropriate for certain colors. It’s also worth considering wallpaper for wall as a way to add texture and visual interest to your office space. Wallpaper can provide depth and character, complementing other textures in the room and tying the overall design together seamlessly.

The same color might not as good on two chairs covered with different materials. Black leather for instance looks good in most combinations, although keep in mind that you’ll need to know how to clean leather furniture.  It might also help to try and anchor yourself in the textures that you choose based on the other textures that are existent in the room, although don’t overdo it.

The size of the room

Here’s a really important one: Different rooms have different sizes according to different houses. The important thing here is that you pick colors that put said rooms, regardless of their size, in an advantageous light. This can be tricky at times but the general rule is that light, soft colors will help a place look more spacious. If the room is already pretty big, this might not be the best move since you don’t want it to look empty either. But if it’s a smaller room in a smaller house, painting it with something light and soft can do it a lot of good and make it look bigger than it is.

Decorating a home might seem like an easy job, but in actuality there are quite a few things that you need to keep in mind and some guidelines you need to follow. They aren’t written rules and are more like suggestions, but time and countless home decorating efforts have shown us how we can learn from past mistakes when trying to make a house look good.
