Costumes aren’t welcome in PS3 Home

We have no idea why Sony is taking such a snobby position with PS3 Home, but they sound like total snots when describing the rules and etiquette of the social interface for the console. They say they are attempting to keep Home “accessible to everyone” by putting certain limitations on the attire your avatar can wear.

“If everyone’s walking around dressed as orcs or stormtroopers or whatever, then you lose that welcoming, accessible element that means Mum, Dad and your sister might get involved as well.” says Sony’s Peter Edwards. This is confusing for a few reasons. Numero uno, the biggest MMO on the internet is filled with exotic creatures, including orcs, and it hasn’t caused a damper for them. Numero dos, why not just give the people more bang for their buck?

We think that the real reason behind this is Sony rushed to release Home to compete with the Wii’s Mii. So they really didn’t have the time to create more outfits. Now they just sound like fascists. — Andrew Dobrow
