Cultists Predict World Will End on 11/11/11 (Or We’ll All Be Raptured)

Ever heard of pareidolia? Psychologists define it as the temptation to find patterns in random data — in many cases, sequences of numbers. It looks like at least a few people have a serious case of pareidolia, since they’re predicting that the world will end — just because it’ll be 11/11/11 tomorrow.

Interestingly enough, many of these people are in the same groups that are predicting that the world will end in December of 2012. So, which is it? Will the world end tomorrow, or in 2012?

Not all of them believe that we’ll all perish in a fiery apocalypse on 11/11/11, however. Some people believe that this date is special since it signifies a “day of spiritual enlightenment”.

There are even people who are drawing comparisons between 11/11/11 and the Mayan calendar.
