Gaming sessions are longer than ever today, and whether you’re grinding out levels, battling bosses, or exploring new worlds, it’s easy to lose track of time. That doesn’t seem so bad, but it can get uncomfortable sitting for hours at a time, even when you have a comfortable chair and an ergonomic setup.
A lot of gamers overlook the importance of wearing comfortable clothes, but wearing the wrong clothes can pull your focus away from your game and make you feel stiff, sweaty, or just irritated. On the flip side, wearing comfortable clothing can help you stay focused, play better, and enjoy your games longer without getting distracted.
If you’ve ever struggled to stay comfortable while playing games, here are some ideas to get a little cozier.
Use compression socks to support circulation
Sitting down for long periods of time can cause circulation to stagnate, and for some people, that means swollen feet or legs. If this happens to you, compression socks can help. They’re designed with graduated, gentle pressure that encourages blood to flow back to your heart, and although they serve a functional purpose, compression socks come in fun patterns to match anyone’s style.
Wear soft, breathable t-shirts
The last thing you want is a shirt that makes you feel itchy or too hot during a game. There are some moments that just can’t be paused to scratch an itch or readjust. Soft cotton blend shirts are ideal because they’re comfortable and loose. However, they will absorb sweat if you’re playing in a hot environment.
If you don’t have much air flow or you’re playing in the middle of summer without air conditioning, try a shirt made from a polyester blend designed to wick sweat away from your body.
Regardless of which type of shirt you choose, get the tagless version for ultimate comfort. You can cut tags off, but you have to cut them pretty close to get the whole tag, and if you cut too close to the fabric, you’ll end up with a hole in your shirt that will unravel.
Find stretchy, relaxed pants
No matter how much you love your skinny jeans, they’re not going to be very comfortable for long gaming sessions. Try to find joggers with an elastic waistband or get those big, baggy sweats out of your closet that you use for pajamas. Lightweight fleece sweats will keep you warm and comfortable, but in the summertime, consider activewear, like basketball shorts.
Don’t worry about pockets
Find comfortable pants without big pockets? Get them anyway. While it might be second nature to keep your phone and keys (and other items) in your pockets while you play, you’ll be more comfortable if you empty your pockets into a dish. This way, nothing can spill out of your pockets when you shift positions, you won’t lose your keys, and your wallet won’t be pressing into your leg for your whole gaming session.
Layer up
During a long gaming session, you might experience a variety of extreme temperatures, from cold to hot, depending on the time of day, the weather, and your access to heat or A/C. Layering your clothing is a good way to manage your body temperature. On extra cold days, you can wear a long sleeve shirt under a short sleeve, and then wear a zip-up hoodie on top. Otherwise, just wear a t-shirt and hoodie and take the hoodie off when you get too warm. If you stick to zip-ups, you won’t need to remove your headset to take it off.
Cut thumb holes in your sleeves
If you don’t like your sleeves riding up while you play, consider cutting thumb holes to keep them in place. You can do this with hoodies and long-sleeved shirts.
Get a hoodie with a huge hood
Wearing a hood can be comfortable, but most hoodies come with small, tight hoods. Try to find a hoodie with a giant hood that will make you cozy without feeling restricted.
Use fingerless gloves with grip
If you need better grip, try fingerless gloves that have some grip and padded palms to maintain better control while you play. Fingerless gloves will also keep you warm in chilly environments.
Wear blue light blocking glasses
Blue light emitted from your device can damage your eyesight and cause eye strain, but blue light blocking glasses can prevent this from happening. If you don’t have a blue light filter on your device, glasses will do the trick.
Gear up for long sessions
Long gaming sessions don’t have to be uncomfortable. When you wear the right clothes, you can focus on your game and enjoy every minute. The more comfortable you are, the better you’ll play.
