If you are the tech savvy friend in your circle of friends then you already know exactly what I’m talking about. As the “one with knowledge” you become the instant go to guy. Sure, other friends have this problem as real estate agents and doctors but people tend to break their computers and want tech advice far more often than they want to buy a new house or has a mysterious rash seen to.
So today, as the tech savvy friend, I am going to share with you, my fellow tech savvy friends, an out. A way to pass that “can you help me build a website for…” on to someone else who doesn’t mind the job and will, in fact get paid for it (we’re talking more than a beer and a pie of pizza.)
1&1 My Website Builder
There are a good many “how to make your own website” tools out there, unfortunately most of them were created for people with at least some level of computer knowledge. In my experience sending a non tech savvy friend to any one of these sites is ultimately twice as much work as building the site yourself. With that said though, there is the 1&1 Website Builder that seems to be a little more user friendly than the rest. I have had a good deal more luck being left alone after referring non techies to this website builder than any other, most likely because it doesn’t assume any level of advanced computer knowledge. It takes three steps for anyone to build their site and that means it’s one less job you’ll have to do for free and one less favor you’ll be owed that will never get cashed in.
Don’t believe me? Check it out next time one of your friends asks you to “throw together a quick site” for them…I’m telling you, it’s a lot less hassle than trying to cater to their “can you make that yellower and move it to the right just a bit?” requests that will never stop coming!
