Many of us are lucky enough to live in a culture where we have a large number of Internet Service Providers. This allows us to jump from one carrier to the other whenever we find ourselves dissatisfied with our current provider. Unfortunately there are many parts of the world who, if they are even lucky enough to have Internet access, only do so from one provider.
So you can imagine how pissed off Armenian citizens were when their Internet was disconnected for several hours because of a single person.
On March 28th a 75-year-old Georgian woman was digging for precious metals outside of the Georgian capital of Tbilisi (we’re talking about the country Georgia, by the by – JW). While digging, the woman’s spade cut through a fiber-optic cable. As it turns out, this fiber-optic cable carried with it the hopes, dreams, and creepy Euro porn for 90% of Armenia.
Understandably the woman was arrested for the deed, though I’m not sure it was intended or not. Regardless, after about six hours the Internet was returned and all was right in the world once again.
Of course, if this had happened in the United States, most of North America would be a smoldering crater right now. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not.
