Sanyo has announced their concept phone that runs off of a Sanyo Eneloop AA battery (which can be checked for power by the Dog Battery Checker). Dressed in a very Cupertino-esque shade of white, and branding a cylindrical design, this phone looks entirely awkward.
The phone features no camera, no 3G support, no media, no SMS, and not even an LCD, though it does provide a phone that can be powered with AA batteries. The batteries offer 5 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby time. So if your a big talker, you might need a truck load of batteries to keep this baby running. Did we mention that it looks really ugly and awkward? — Andrew Dobrow
Even more dumb… my old, and i mean stinking old, Motorola 3388e would happily run off 4 AA’s (alkaline or rechargable) duct-taped in place of it’s expensive slimline battery pack. Only problem is that the cover wouldn’t fit – presumably the original 3388 was a fatter beast.
Still worked fine, would do calls properly, had a standard keypad and a decent (for the time… late ’99) LCD, did SMS, etc…. Not sure on the talktime, but eh – surely that’s the point of making it run off AAs, that you can quickly swap in a new set of commodity cells?
