Jeddah is a coastal city in Saudi Arabia. It’s the second largest city in Saudi Arabia and many Muslims making the pilgrimage to Mecca must pass through Jeddah. Soon, Jeddah will also be the home to the world’s tallest building.
At present the world’s tallest building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 2,717 feet. The building that has been greenlit for construction in Jeddah will dwarf this by some 2,500 feet. For those of you who haven’t figured it out yet, I’ll use plain English:
They’re building a mile-high skyscraper in Jeddah.
Why? Bragging rights, maybe. Who knows for sure. All that is known about the project is that it’s been approved, and it’s going to be far-and-away the tallest building in the world.
And I’m never, ever going inside of it.
Are they compensating for something in the Middle East? Is a new Tower of Babel really necessary?
