Well, skipping out on school without getting caught just got a whole lot harder — at least in some Florida schools.
Instead of taking attendance, students simply press their thumb to a scanner, which subsequently matches the student’s fingerprint to a database. Once that student is scanned, they’re marked as being in attendance.
According to the schools using the scanners, the system is described as a “monumental” achievement. In future months, the schools report that the scanning system will be moved to school buses, in order to save time during the school day.
Weird… I kind of thought that treating students like prisoners just to make sure they attend school could be counterproductive. Isn’t learning supposed to be fun, or something?
