Remember that X-Class solar flare that occurred a couple of days ago? Well, it’s cent three CMEs (coronal mass ejections) towards the Earth that are scheduled to hit the planet over the next three days.
From the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center:
The calm before the storm. Three CMEs are enroute, all a part of the Radio Blackout events on February 13, 14, and 15 (UTC). The last of the three seems to be the fastest and may catch both of the forerunners about mid to late day tomorrow, February 17. Watch this space for updates on the impending G2, possibly periods of G3 geomagnetic storming.
As previously mentioned, this will be an excellent opportunity for aurora watchers to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
