Underlying the simplicity and casual approach of this film is a deft conceit, ably demonstrating that entropy isn’t just something that makes us lose our car keys, but also keeps time’s arrow pointed in its familiar direction. The video was made by (and features) John Pavlus, who runs the recently-rejuvenated Small Mammal, a studio that specializes in making science and technology videos for the Web. (Pavlus also writes for Wired, Technology Review, and other Gearfuse favorites.) He created it as a promotion for a science video contest sponsored by ars technica. Entries are being accepted until December 25, and the winner gets a Canon EOS 7D. Videos only need to be three minutes longand as John’s shows, they don’t need to be big-budget productions to pack a punch.
