If you’re one of the… very small number of people who buy their MP3s from Walmart, I’ve got some bad news. On August 29th, Walmart will be discontinuing all sales of MP3s.
It’s not like we couldn’t have seen this coming. With Amazon offering an Mp3 download service, and Spotify finally coming to the US, Walmart faces some pretty stiff competition. This is ignoring, of course, the huge market share controlled by iTunes.
If you already purchased MP3s from Walmart, don’t worry. You’ll still be able to manage and view your music online.
Walmart didn’t cite any official reason for discontinuing MP3 sales, though we can make an educated guess that they just couldn’t compete with other companies in this market.
